The Five Streams Project is a privately funded research initiative. It aims to comprehensively analyse assets within the water sector.

This research aims to deliver unparalleled insights for organisational benchmarking. It can also be used as a foundation for investment in innovation, technology, and resources to drive the growth of the water sector.

The research focuses on asset identification, operational performance, and financial indicators. The industry will be divided into five streams: wastewater, potable water, recycled water, stormwater, and drainage culverts.

The goal is to provide a holistic perspective on the industry. It uses new information to complement existing data from government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.

This research project offers critical benefits for stakeholders in the water sector. The comprehensive nature of the analysis will provide a detailed understanding of the industry, including identifying strengths and areas for improvement. This information will be helpful for organisations looking to optimise their operations and improve performance.

How this industry research will help

The research will provide an empirical basis for investments by asset owners, operators, and delivery providers. It will provide a benchmarking tool that will allow organisations to compare their performance against industry standards.

The insights and findings generated by the research will be helpful for government agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations to make informed decisions about the sector. It will provide valuable insights and information to improve the performance and competitiveness of the water sector.

The first phase of defining the research scope and strategy has been completed. The project is now entering the second phase. This involves gathering existing data and developing strategies for acquiring new data. Collecting, analysing, and compiling data will continue throughout 2023. Findings and insights are expected to be presented before the end of the 2024 fiscal year.
