Tender awarded for Burpengary East WWTP upgrade

Unitywater has contracted Ventia as its delivery partner for more than $100 million in work to upgrade the Burpengary East WWTP. Work is scheduled to commence in May 2024.

The upgrade program includes new inlet works with enhanced odour control, a new bioreactor, a new clarifier, renewal of treated water disinfection systems, and electrical and control system upgrades.“This upgrade will deliver significant improvements in our wastewater treatment capacity to support the needs of our growing community in the region,” said Joshua Zugajev, Executive Manager Strategic Engagement at Unitywater.“Like all of our future-focused asset upgrades, we’re also making sure this program delivers positive environmental and social outcomes by reducing nutrients released to the Caboolture River and minimising the odour produced during this essential process.”

The upgraded infrastructure will significantly increase the capacity of the plant to meet the demands of the growing population and support economic growth in the surrounding areas of Narangba, Burpengary, Beachmere, Burpengary East, Deception Bay, and Morayfield.

“We are excited to be working with Unitywater on this vital project,” said Tim Harwood, Group Executive of Infrastructure Services at Ventia.

“Our team is dedicated to supporting the delivery of high-quality infrastructure that meets the needs of the community and prioritises important environmental outcomes.”

Work is scheduled to commence in May 2024 and run through until late 2026, subject to weather and site conditions.

All activities will be conducted within the existing Burpengary East WWTP premises, located on Uhlmann Road, Burpengary East.
