Central Highlands Water (CHW) continues to progress the $3 million Beaufort Reuse for Recreation project, following successful pressure testing of the 3km transfer pipeline from the Beaufort wastewater treatment plant to multiple community recreation facilities.
This project was identified as a priority project in the Central Highlands IWM Forum’s Strategic Directions Statement. The project has been jointly funded by the DEECA Integrated Water Management Program ($1.4 million), Central Highlands Water ($1.6 million) and in-kind support from the Pyrenees Shire Council.
The project will provide environmental and sustainable benefits, through utilising recycled water supply for multiple community recreation facilities in Beaufort that will improve playing surfaces and provide positive health and wellbeing benefits.
The irrigation pipework at the Beaufort Golf Club, including Beaufort Secondary and Primary School Oval, has now been installed. The new irrigation pump has been installed at Goldfields Recreation Reserve.
Upcoming planned works over the summer include further electrical installations at the Beaufort Wastewater Treatment Plant. This will be followed by testing and commissioning of the recycled water pump station. A power upgrade to the Beaufort Golf Club is scheduled in the coming months.
Central Highlands Water Managing Director Jeff Haydon was excited about the progress of the major project in Beaufort.
“CHW are pleased to share the positive progress is being made for the Beaufort Reuse for Recreation project. Pressure testing is now complete, and pipework at the Beaufort Primary and Secondary School oval and Golf Course is now installed.”
“This is an exciting project for the region with its climate resilience and sustainability focus. When completed, it will provide efficient and safe water reuse for many highly valued recreational spaces and reduce the demand on the town’s drinking water supply,” Haydon said.
