Not just providing products – submitting solutions!

Some companies are only interested in selling their products to potential clients. A smaller number would rather provide solutions to the problems their clients are dealing with. SEW Eurodrive is a company that provides solutions for the problems faced by its clients. Such an approach can support alleviating pressures arising from potential downtime and lost opportunities.

Some companies are only interested in selling their products to potential clients. A smaller number would rather provide solutions to the problems their clients are dealing with. SEW-EURODRIVE is a company that provides solutions for the problems faced by its clients. Such an approach can support alleviating pressures arising from potential downtime and lost opportunities.

Own equipment manufacturers (OEMs), system integrators and end users consider end-to-end service crucial to their success. SEW-EURODRIVE’s value proposition is a prime example of this principle in action, ensuring the constant motion of production lines and manufacturing equipment.

Quality, Service and Delivery, in conjunction with other support offerings, must be all-encompassing to create a competitive advantage for the customer. At SEW-EURODRIVE, the process begins with knowledgeable sales and engineering teams facilitating the selection of an optimum solution. It continues for the product’s life, with dedicated service and repair teams delivering ongoing support and maintenance.

Quality of solutions through SEW-EURODRIVE products

Our products stand for variety, quality, reliability, and innovative strength. These characteristics are at the core of our entire product portfolio. Not only is the value of quality implemented throughout the product design process, but also instilled in our employees at all levels within the realms of responsibility through our quality policy.

Our quality objectives include striving for continual improvement in our systems, processes, products and services through ongoing staff training and development; seeking and responding to customer feedback; and providing a world’s best practice safe working environment, complemented with 24-hour service and support.

Australian SEW-EURODRIVE operations are ISO 9001 certified in Quality Management Systems. The qualification scope covers the sales, assembly, supply, service and technical support for mechanical power transmission equipment and electric variable speed drives. The registration also covers the design of customised drive base assemblies and associated components.

Supporting the wastewater industry

Sewage treatment plants clean up tons of wastewater every day. Technical problems or even system failures cannot be tolerated. At every purification stage of your sewage treatment plant, use drive technology tailored to your requirements, which prevents failures and lowers energy costs.

SEW-EURODRIVE has a range of solutions that can support the needs of any wastewater treatment plant operator. The list below is just a small list.

Infeed with screw pump

As soon as the wastewater reaches the sewage treatment plant, it is lifted by the screw pumps in the infeed to the sewage treatment plant level. A motor is coupled to the gear unit via a belt. The mechanical cleaning begins. The amount of wastewater, temperature, pH, and electrical conductivity are measured in the infeed. In the infeed with a screw pump, the drive unit consists of an X-series helical gear unit with a motor adapter and AC motor.

Screening system and wash press feed

The wastewater in the screening system is coarsely cleaned. All larger solids are removed from the water. This includes baby wipes, carpet scraps, wedding rings, or dentures. Screen cleaners then transport the filtered substances for further processing. The existing screening system combines parallel-shaft helical gear units with an AC motor. Thanks to their slim design, parallel-shaft helical gear units are used mainly in confined spaces and are optimally suited for long-term operation.

Screening treatment

The wash press is fed directly through the screen or conveyor. A solid shaft screw pushes the screenings into the wash area. Here, faecal matter is removed using a washboard and friction process. Water is subsequently removed from the washed material in the pressing zone. This process step uses parallel-shaft helical gear motors, helical-bevel gear motors, and frequency inverters.

Sand trap with scraper and grit classifier

In the sand trap, the flow rate of the wastewater is reduced so that heavier materials such as gravel, sand, or soil settle. These solids are fed to the grit classifier under pressure. The tangential inflow causes a rotation of the water so that heavy materials like sand sink into the tip of the funnel. Helical-bevel gear motors are primarily used in the sand trap. This is because the gearing is designed for high-torque drives with long power-applied, wear-free hours.

Primary sedimentation with scraper

Even lighter dirt particles settle in the primary clarifier because the wastewater flows very slowly. To allow the lighter particles to settle, the flow rate of the wastewater must be reduced to 0.015 m/s. Helical-bevel gear motors are primarily used in primary sedimentation. The gearings are durable, resulting in an almost wear-free drive, even in continuous operation.

Final sedimentation with scraper

By further reducing the flow rate of the wastewater stream, sedimentation of the settleable substances takes place: The saturated microorganisms sink to the bottom of the final clarifier. This sludge is pushed with a sliding feed and discharged through a funnel in the middle of the basin. Helical-bevel gear motors are the preferred drive technology in final sedimentation: They are ideally suited for moving heavy loads with long power-applied hours.

Digestion tower

During wastewater treatment, specific amounts of sewage sludge are produced. This sludge forms gas in the digestion tower, used for heat production. To guarantee an optimal digestion process, the temperature in the digestion tower must be kept at 36 – 37 degrees. Space-saving drive solutions are required in process engineering, so parallel-shaft helical gear motors are often used in the digestion tower.
