Gippsland Water is investing $2.8 million in its service area this financial year to improve the reliability of its water and sewer systems.
It is part of a $21.5 million five-year renewal program. To improve the integrity of existing pipes and extend their lifespan, water reticulation mains will be replaced, and sewer mains will be cleaned and relined.
Managing director Sarah Cumming said crews will be completing water main renewals in Newborough, Noojee, Sale, Wurruk, Heyfield and Maffra over the next six months.
“Our service area includes 2,200 kilometres of water mains and 1,800 of sewer mains, which we’re constantly monitoring as part of our renewal program,” Cumming said.
“Last year, we upgraded nearly six kilometres of sewer mains in Traralgon and Morwell and almost six kilometres of water mains in Morwell, Traralgon, Churchill, Sale and Stratford.
“By planning for the future and completing these renewals each year, we can ensure reliable and efficient water and wastewater services are provided to both homes and businesses.
“We’ll let customers know in advance if planned works will interrupt their water supply.”
Water and sewer mains are scheduled for renewal based on the results of continued assessments on condition and future demand.
