Melbourne Water innovation wins at AWA Awards

Melbourne Water has been recognised at the Australian Water Association (AWA) Awards for its innovative water infrastructure and commitment to reaching net zero.

Melbourne Water has been recognised at the Australian Water Association (AWA) Awards for its innovative water infrastructure and commitment to reaching net zero.

Up against several innovative and forward-thinking projects, Melbourne Water, with John HollandKBR JV, won the Infrastructure Project Innovation Excellence Award (metro) for its Eastern Treatment Plant Biogas Handling System Stage 1 Upgrade.

The Eastern Treatment Plant Biogas Handling System Stage 1 Upgrade has maximised biogas conversion to bioenergy to deliver on Melbourne Water’s commitment to Net Zero. The team implemented several innovative approaches that improved safety, production, reliability, longevity, and the ability to expand to address forecast population growth.

This project is an industry-leading example of Melbourne Water delivering necessary operational requirements while ensuring immediate and ongoing social, economic, and environmental benefits.

Melbourne Water’s Managing Director, Dr Nerina Di Lorenzo, said the industry recognition at the AWA Awards was a huge source of pride.

In addition to this win, Melbourne Water was nominated for the Industry Safety Excellence Award.

The Australian Water Awards were announced at its gala event, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre as part of Ozwater’24.

The water industry’s night of nights celebrates outstanding work by individuals and organisations. It also recognises innovation in technology, business and project delivery.
