Sydney Water has awarded a major contract to upgrade the Castle Hill Water Recycling Plant in Sydney’s North-West. The significant investment will ensure a more efficient and integrated wastewater system. The upgrade shall cater for growth in the area and will continue to keep our waterways clean.

The contract to upgrade the site has been awarded to Abergeldie and is part of a larger project known as the North-West Treatment Hub which will link three treatment plants in the area. The other two Water Recycling Plants are located at Rouse Hill and Riverstone.

At the heart of the project are several improvements addressing the plant’s environmental impact on the local area. This includes reducing noise and odour levels at the site.

The scope of works to be undertaken includes a new odour control facility, new pumps and pipes in the existing bioreactor. There will also be upgrades to switch rooms and transformers and a new ultraviolet disinfection system. Abergeldie will be tasked with the demolition of redundant facilities.

Sydney Water Project Director Bernard Clancy said the plant is an important piece of infrastructure that will leave a positive legacy.

“The upgrade of the Castle Hill plant is all about building a more sustainable system that will not only continue to provide a reliable wastewater service. It will also contribute to reducing our energy and carbon footprint through renewable energy.” Clancy said.

Abergeldie Executive General Manager Stephen Gasson is excited to be involved with the project.

“We’re thrilled to be delivering this important upgrade. Our selection for this project exemplifies our close working relationship with Sydney Water. It also reflects our cultural alignment and our shared vision for the sustainable delivery of this complex project.” said Gasson.

Upgrades to the Castle Hill Water Recycling plant will commence in the new year.
