A tender has been awarded for the construction of infrastructure to expand recycled water use to green spaces in Horsham, under the auspices of GWMWater.
GWMWater has awarded Girdwood Contracting a tender to construct
a recycled water pipeline as part of the Horsham Agriculture SmartWater and Integrated Water Management Project.
In September 2022, the Victorian Government announced an additional $575,000 in funding from the Integrated Water Management program to the Horsham Integrated Water Supply Connections.
Once constructed, the SmartWater recycled water pipeline will run along the Wimmera Highway from Rudolphs Rd to the Horsham Racecourse, as well as north along Curran Rd to the Aerodrome, Langlands Park and Blue Ribbon Road.
Horsham tender to support GWMWater recycled water programs
GWMWater Managing Director, Mark Williams, said the project focused on improving the quality of and access to recycled water, opening up more opportunities for reuse.
“Upgrades at the Horsham Wastewater Treatment Plant are now underway. Once that work is completed, the quality of recycled water produced will improve,” he said.
“The pipeline will enable access to recycled water for spaces like the racecourse, cemetery, sports ovals and Langlands Park. They usually rely on drinking water or a small volume of stormwater for irrigation purposes”.
Customers along the SmartWater pipeline route and nearby the Horsham Wastewater Treatment Plant have the opportunity to submit proposals for the purchase and reuse of recycled water.
Expression of Interest forms can be found on the GWMWater website at gwmwater.org.au/HorshamRecycledWaterEOI. Alternatively, EOIs can be lodged by contacting Call Centre on 1300 659 961.
Construction of the SmartWater pipeline will start in June and is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
The project is jointly funded by the Commonwealth Government’s National Water Grid Authority, Agriculture Victoria and GWMWater.
