WaterAid Australia celebrated two decades of life-changing impact on water and sanitation at an inspiring 20th-anniversary event in Melbourne, attended by prominent leaders and advocates across the water sector.
Emceed by the Hon. Karlene Maywald, the event honoured the significant achievements made possible through collaboration.
Since its inception, WaterAid Australia has reached over five million people globally through its comprehensive water, sanitation and hygiene programs.
These initiatives have been instrumental in supporting 88 healthcare facilities and 511 schools to access essential water, sanitation and hygiene services, enhancing the well-being of communities and promoting better health outcomes.
The anniversary event was an opportunity to reflect on this journey, celebrate key milestones and recognise the dedication of individuals and organisations who have made the successes possible.
The event was attended by key figures from the water sector, including long-term supporters Interflow and Yarra Valley Water.
The evening’s highlights included powerful speeches by WaterAid’s Country Directors from Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Cambodia. They shared firsthand accounts of how WaterAid Australia’s projects have transformed lives in vulnerable communities, delivering lasting change.
Tom Muller, Chief Executive of WaterAid Australia said the 20-year milestone is a testament to the power of partnership.
“Over the past 20 years, we’ve worked alongside governments, communities and the water sector to deliver real, tangible change.
Our journey over the past two decades has only been possible because of the dedication and passion of our supporters. This event is not just a look back at what we’ve achieved but a call to action for what we can accomplish together in the years ahead” said Muller.
As the event concluded, guests were reminded their ongoing support allows WaterAid to continue making strides towards providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene to communities that need it most.
